Not Papa is an ongoing series exploring the relationship of cultural and individual identity across time and migration, beginning with my grandfather, a Filipino migrant in the early 1900s. The work unfolds across multiple forms: a zine using archival images to question systematic assimilation practices; a hinged found frame that holds archival documents and a family photograph; and a written essay examining how cultural identity has been constructed and reconstructed across three generations. Together, these approaches investigate how identity persists, shifts, and reforms in response to circumstance.
