Project 13
At the Seams begins from the documentation of 151 American flags across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York during the fall of 2025. What began as documentation of a ubiquitous symbol became an archive of contradiction—the flag’s meaning now entirely dependent on context, shifting radically based on who flies it and what surrounds it. Through the photographs and an accompanying essay, the publication traces how the flag evolved from sacred symbol to contested terrain, examining what happens when a national symbol can no longer bear the weight of its contradictions, and how its fracturing mirrors the erosion of democracy itself.
