The East Side Revisted
Project 7
In 1959, Lippitt Hill—known locally as “The East Side”—was demolished as part of an urban renewal project that displaced one of the oldest Black communities in Providence, RI. Photographed in Fall 2025, The East Side Revisited documents the neighborhood that exists in the aftermath of those decisions. Interwoven with archival materials from that era, the work explores the everyday present-day scenes, the history that produced it, and the emerging development actively reshaping it.
